Job Description

Role Title: Venture Capital Associate

Role Type: Contractor

Location: Remote

micro1 is engaging Venture Capital Associates to contribute to a groundbreaking project focused on building datasets that capture the nuanced workflows of modern venture capital. In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. No prior experience in AI is required — your domain knowledge is what matters.

Scope of Work • Design and author project tasks that reflect authentic VC workflows, including deal screening, market sizing (TAM/SAM/SOM), competitive analysis, founder evaluation, and investment committee (IC) memorandum drafting. • Analyze early-stage and growth startups across financials, product-market fit, market opportunities, competitive positioning, and team effectiveness with the rigor and depth expected at partner meetings. • Construct and interpret financial projections, cap tables, and scenario analyses for early-stage companies. • Assess and provide qualitative feedback on AI-generated content, evaluating pattern-matching, market sizing, and how well outputs mirror real-world VC judgment. • Collaborate with project leads to calibrate evaluation rubrics, refine task complexity, and identify content gaps across sectors and company stages. • Document methodologies and standardize best practices that reflect modern VC analysis and decision-making processes.

Preferred Qualifications • 3–6+ years of experience at a venture capital, growth equity firm, or as an operator/founder with significant deal evaluation exposure. • MBA, Master’s in Finance, or equivalent advanced degree; graduates of Wharton or other top-tier programs strongly welcomed. • Direct experience crafting IC memos and performing diligence on deals reviewed by investment partners. • Proven ability to conduct market sizing, founder assessment, and competitive landscape analysis under ambiguity. • Exceptional written communication skills, demonstrated by concise, precise, and analytical documentation at a professional or IC-memo standard. • Strong analytical reasoning, especially in situations with incomplete or ambiguous data. • Experience working across various company stages (pre-seed to growth) and across multiple sectors is a plus.
