Role Description The Virtual Medical Assistant–Infectious Disease & IV Antibiotic is a full-time remote role supporting infectious disease clinicians and IV antibiotic care teams. Daily responsibilities include coordinating telemedicine appointments, managing patient scheduling and follow-ups, and handling inbound and outbound patient communications in a professional and empathetic manner. The role involves gathering and updating clinical information, reviewing medication lists, documenting symptoms and treatment progress, and assisting with IV antibiotic therapy tracking under clinician guidance.

The assistant will perform tasks related to prior authorization, insurance verification, and medical data entry, ensuring accurate and timely documentation in electronic health records and practice management systems. Additional duties include supporting infection control workflows, confirming lab and imaging orders, monitoring secure messaging platforms, and collaborating with clinical staff to help optimize patient care and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

Clinical support skills: experience as a medical assistant or similar role, familiarity with infectious disease care, and basic understanding of IV antibiotic therapies and related terminology.

Administrative and documentation skills: proficiency in medical data entry, appointment scheduling, prior authorization, and insurance verification, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Health information and compliance skills: working knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) systems, HIPAA regulations, and secure handling of patient information.

Communication and patient support skills: clear verbal and written communication, active listening, professional phone and video etiquette, and the ability to provide empathetic, non-judgmental patient support.

Technical and remote work skills: comfort with telemedicine platforms, healthcare software, and collaboration tools, along with reliable internet access and a suitable remote work environment.

Organizational and problem-solving skills: ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize urgent requests, follow protocols, and escalate issues appropriately to clinical staff.

Education and experience: high school diploma or equivalent required;

certification as a medical assistant or relevant healthcare training preferred; prior experience in infectious disease, internal medicine, or outpatient specialty practices is an advantage.
